Follow Skybourne

Skybourne Aerospace is a physical AI venture building autonomous aircrafts for first responders. We engineered the perception, autonomy and airframe of our aircrafts to operate reliably in GPS-denied and hostile environment of public safety missions. Halo, our first platform, outperforms competitor drones in payload capacity, aerodynamic efficiency, sensor suite, and mission autonomy, at a lower cost. Flown 10+ field demonstrations with fire, police, and EMS teams.

AR glasses view of an aircraft cabin with seat labels, seat belt status, and overhead bin checks

ASU Technology Innovation Lab with Honeywell Aerospace / January to May 2025

AR Cabin Operations

In ASU's Technology Innovation Lab with Honeywell Aerospace, our team was challenged to cut airline costs by reducing flight attendant staffing. Stakeholder interviews with pilots, flight attendants, and airline managers mapped cabin workflows and revealed manual safety and compliance checks delaying departures. We automated seat belt and overhead bin checks and built a working prototype with supporting software. The solution saved 60 seconds to 3 minutes per flight, reduced crew workload, and projected multi-million dollar annual savings.

Adaptive Carbon-Flex Missile Maneuvering

Conceptualized a low-power carbon-flex maneuvering system for missiles and rockets, aimed at counter-UAS (C-UAS) and air-defense interceptors. Flexing composite surfaces replace conventional fins, reducing drag and improving aerodynamic efficiency while enabling quicker, more agile maneuvers to engage drones and jets. Low-power thrusters keep the design affordable. Developed the concept through CAD, CFD, and material analysis, and wrote the flight-control and flight-software logic. Work reached the concept and simulation stage.

Odyssey Planetary Rover

Volunteer engineer on a planetary-analog rover built for remote multi-sensor surveys over rough terrain. Developed the six-wheel chassis and sensor mounts in SolidWorks and supported mechanical integration. Programmed the Raspberry Pi control stack in Python with Wi-Fi teleoperation and a command link, live video from a 2-axis pan-tilt gimbal, and eight-channel Arduino Mega telemetry streamed into an InfluxDB time-series database.

Coconut CubeSat Radio Payload Lead

Led a five-person payload team developing a custom LoRa radio module targeting 30 dBm RF output for a 1U CubeSat deployed into low Earth orbit (LEO) from the International Space Station. The payload lets low-power LoRa modules and IoT sensors in remote locations relay data to the CubeSat, extending remote-sensing collection through an IoT-style ground-station network. Designed the radio circuit and selected components, then tuned RF output and link performance through FieldFox RF analysis and power testing. Wrote custom C/C++ firmware that maximized data throughput for balloon and spaceflight testing.

Aerospace Instructor

Developed and taught an advanced rocketry curriculum to 200+ students at a NASA-supported space camp. Students progressed from aerodynamic theory to CAD, 3D-printed rocket design, OpenRocket flight simulation, wind-tunnel testing, and construction, then launched with a programmable altimeter and GPS data logger.

FURI Research Program / January to May 2023

1U Pulsed Plasma Thruster Research

Modeled pulsed plasma thruster for CubeSat propulsion and attitude control, using CFD in ANSYS Fluent and COMSOL to study solid-propellant ablation in vacuum. Compared five Teflon propellant variants across 0.5 to 50 J pulse energies and 0.5 to 2 Hz firing rates, against targets of under 2 W per thruster, ~1000 s specific impulse, and a 100 µN·s minimum impulse bit. Carbon-doped Teflon reached the highest efficiency, up to 15% versus 12% for nominal Teflon, with an estimated life of over 11 million pulses.

NASA Space Grant ASCEND / January to May 2023

Scientific Balloon Communications Mission

Directed a four-person team building the telemetry, tracking, and command (TT&C) radio link for a 3U CubeSat flown on a high-altitude balloon to test a reaction-wheel ADCS. The 430 MHz amateur-band link downlinked health, system, and ADCS telemetry and uplinked ADCS control commands, delivered on a two-week schedule through a successful flight.
